Katie Dwyer is a Japanese American children’s book illustrator and writer. Born with a love for creating, Katie would spend her childhood drawing and cutting paper dolls, painting pictures, and making dolls out of yarn. She would even host gallery openings in her room, complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony, where she would sell her drawings for 25 cents to her family.

Katie loves telling stories that enhance the reader’s imagination and challenge them to explore the world around them. Empathy, acceptance and kindness are common themes, along with throwing in a sprinkle of humor. Katie combines traditional and digital elements in her illustrations. Her favorite mediums are graphite and watercolor. She is drawn to limited color palettes and using color to evoke emotion and build beautiful worlds for her characters.

When she isn’t drawing or writing, Katie can be found playing games with her kids, drinking a lot of iced matcha lattes, working out, and eating delicious food with her partner. She lives in Asheville, North Carolina with her husband, three wild boys, and two pups.
